6 March 2009
Welcome Address of the Commander, 10ID in connection with the Presentation of the Former Rebels and Awarding of Immediate Assistance Package/Renumeration of Firearms to the Former Rehbels at Badminton Court, Headquarters, 10ID on 06 March 2009
We are indeed fortunate this morning to welcome our fellow Filipino back to the folds of the law. This occasion symbolizes their transistion to a new life apart from the fact that their return means that peace and development is the road ahead of us in this part of Mindanao. For us in the government and public service, this ceremony siginifies that our hard work, collective efforts and commitment to our respective mandate are not in vain.
Our ceremony this morning is a step forward in the peace process program of the governent. This was made possible through the concerted efforts adn collaboration of the Local Chief Executives (LCEs), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP), othe government agencies such as the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines .
This is also another milestone in our insurgency campaign as this would eventually open doors of opportunities for other rebels in the mountains who are still waiting for the appropriate opportunity to return to mainstream society. I believe that we have this morning is a promise fulfilled and hopefully shall build thrust and confidence to those who still have hesitations or questions on the sincerity of this government. This would guarantee as well as the many things enstored for the rebels who would opt to surrender to the government.
The 10th Infantry(AGILA) Division under my watch really takes pride of this noble accomplishment. May i take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to teh people behind this successful undertaking, particularly our LCEs who are present today. Special mention goes to our Governors, Mayors and local leaders for their support to OPAPP under the Underscretary Pedro Cesar Ramboanga Jr. and to Madam Madeline Marfori, the Presidential Consultant and concurrently the Chairperson of Regional KALAHI Group (RKCG), I could not thank you enough this time, but we hope for your usual support and cooperation as we work together in the spirit of service towards a common vision of peace and development in this Eastern part of Mindanao.
This morning, we shall witness the awarding of immediate assistance to 17 former rebels from the Province of Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte. We will also award the cash renumeration for the firearms surrendered to 12 rebel returnees. They are the early recipients fo this program.
mMay toda's ceremony serve as an inspiration to other rebels not to hesitate to surrender should they realize the commitmenr and sincerity of the government to give them meaningful and peaceful lives through the Social Integration Program (SIP). May this morning's activity also pave way for the government to attract and encourage more rebels to return to the folds of the law.
To all you present today, welcome to the home of the 10th Infantry (AGILA) Division. This is your ARMY and also your HOME. DAGHANG SALAMAT UG MAAYONG BUNTAG KANINYONG TANAN!
