10th Infantry (Agila Division) History

The 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, Philippine Army  was activated on 16 August 2006 based on the orders issued by the Headquarters, Philippine Army as stated in General Order number 335 dated 09 August 2006 in compliance with the guidance of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, as the Commander-in-Chief.

The four-fold purpose of activating this Division in the Eastern and Southern portion of Mindanao out of the existing units in the area are: to achieve focus against confronted threats; have better assurance of dismantling all targeted Guerilla Fronts which are considered the most advance and most volatile; better administration, supervision and support of units confronting threats in the area through threath-based deployment and to better address the organization weakness   brought about by the political boundaries of 4th and 6th Infantry Divisions.

Apparently, the establishment of the new Division required the reassignment of units from adjacent Army Divisions.  From the 4th Infantry Division, the 404th Infantry Brigade which was renamed 1001st Infantry Brigade, Task Force Davao, 28th, 60th, 67th, and 73rd Infantry Battalions and 72nd CAFGU Battalion were absorbed.  Also from the 6th Infantry Division, the 601st was renamed 1002nd Infantry Brigade, Joint Task Force GenSan, 25th, 27th, 39th and 66th  Infantry Battalions were also absorbed.

MGEN ERNESTO D BOAC was designated as its first Commander who assumed on 16 August 2006 in a simple ceremony at Sasa, Davao City.
